Citibank - Helping Homeowners Manage Their Mortgage and Home Loan Payments

National Mortgage Settlement

What is the National Mortgage Settlement?

The National Mortgage Settlement is an agreement between state attorneys general and major loan servicers, including Citi. This agreement provides relief to eligible borrowers through improved servicing standards and borrower assistance programs. In response to this settlement, Citi is offering a range of options, including new programs designed to assist:

  • Homeowners who are current on their mortgage, but whose home has negative equity (meaning more is owed on the home than it is worth).
  • Homeowners with a first and/or second mortgage who are having trouble making payments or have missed payments.
  • Borrowers who lost their home to foreclosure between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011.

Eligibility Overview

Eligibility guidelines for National Mortgage Settlement assistance programs require that your mortgage is owned and serviced by Citi. Loans that are owned by others, such as Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae, are not eligible under the Settlement guidelines, but may qualify for other Citi solutions.

Not sure if your loan is owned by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae?

You can determine whether your loan is owned by either Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae by checking the following websites:

Freddie Mac loan lookup    https://ww3.FreddieMac.com/corporate/

Fannie Mae loan lookup   http://www.FannieMae.com/loanlookup/

Programs available under the National Mortgage Settlement are generally most appropriate for borrowers who are "underwater" on their mortgage, meaning more is owed on the home than it is worth. National Mortgage Settlement programs are available to borrowers who are current on their mortgage payments, as well as to those who are delinquent on their payments.

Borrowers who are eligible for loan modifications or other assistance programs under the National Mortgage Settlement are being contacted directly by Citi via US Mail, mail delivery service (e.g. UPS/FedEx), by phone or email. If you do not receive information from us about assistance you may not be eligible for these specific programs.

How do I know if I qualify for these programs?

Programs may be available if you are still in your home and want to remain in your home. The solution that may be appropriate for you will depend on eligibility requirements and your specific situation. Not all homeowners will be eligible for assistance.

What if I don't qualify under the National Mortgage Settlement guidelines?

If you do not qualify for assistance under the National Mortgage Settlement program, and you are facing challenges with your mortgage payments, the most important thing to do is to speak with a Homeowner Support Specialist who can help you understand your options. Call 1-866-272-4749, 8 AM - Midnight ET Monday through Friday, and 8 AM - 8 PM ET Saturday and Sunday.
